Stainless steel doors: durability, maintenance, and what to expect

Stainless steel is a great choice for entry doors because it combines strength with a modern finish. But it still needs the right material choice and basic care to stay looking new.
What to check before you buy: the steel thickness, the internal reinforcement, the quality of the frame, and the lock hardware. Ask what parts are stainless and what parts are coated steel.
Maintenance basics: wipe with a soft cloth, avoid harsh abrasives, and rinse dust/sand to prevent micro-scratches. For fingerprints, use mild soap and water.
Rust spots (tea staining) can happen in harsh environments. It’s usually surface contamination, not the door ‘rusting through’. Regular cleaning helps prevent it.
If your door is near moisture, confirm that hinges and fasteners are corrosion-resistant and that water can’t sit in hidden seams.
